“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” – Bill Vaughan
Jesus is an optimist. When he looks at us he doesn’t focus on our problems, he sees our potential! The turn of a new year is a great time for making resolutions for improvement. Resolutions are born out of an innate optimism which God built into our character. Why do we resolve to do better? Why do we look at the turn of the calendar as an opportunity for enhancement? Because, we are natural optimists.
Now, there are some disguised pessimists out there who call themselves realists. They’ve been hurt in the past by their inability to follow-through or life’s challenging circumstances. So, they lack faith in themselves, others and, ultimately, God. However, they do serve us by warning that many, if not most, resolutions are forgotten by February.
So, let’s prove those pessimists wrong and move strongly into the new year with renewed faith and renewed energy to become the people God is calling us to become. God can enable us to accomplish incredible things. What do you need God to help you achieve in 2015? What kind of person do you want to be? What dream does God have for you to experience? Be like Jesus: be an optimist!
