“Some people complain because God put thorns on roses; others are thankful to God because he put roses among thorns.” – Anonymous
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, but it can also be a painful holiday. Some people have spent most of their adult lives putting distance between themselves and the very people with whom they spend Thanksgiving. How many of the millions boarding airplanes this week will be doing so grudgingly?
Family is a mixed blessing, some more blessing, others more mixed! But, our families are a deeper part of us than we could possibly imagine. They helped make us who we are, for better or worse.
So, we have a choice to make this Thanksgiving. Be thankful for the good and let our thankfulness be what we choose to think about, or we can focus on the negative, painful, and difficult situations in our lives and relationships.
I’m not advocating a way of being that ignores the negative or disregards pain, what I am saying is there is good in every person and every situation. So, especially during a time we call Thanksgiving, I can choose to give thanks to God for the good in my life, in my family, and in my world.
