Yesterday I spent seven hours at the Kentucky Annual Conference offices in Crestwood, Kentucky. I am the chairman of the new KAC Camp & Retreat Team. I met with David Sparks, the KAC Ministries with Young People staff person, and the directors of three of our four camps. My first response to being made chairman of a new team at the conference level was, "Oh boy! Another layer of bureaucracy!" But, as I've reflected on the purpose of the Camp & Retreat Ministries, I think it will be a good thing. Since the merger of the Louisville Conference and Kentucky Conference in 1996, we've really not thought through how best to support and promote the four different camps: Aldersgate, Loucon, Kavanaugh, and Ruggles. I know all the directors and they are all quality leaders who have great visions and dreams for their individual ministries and what the Conference needs is a comprehensive vision for how to boost attendance and effectiveness of these ministries. Anyway, it's going to be a fun four years! I'm looking forward to getting to know the camps better and seeing what God does when we work together as one team with one purpose.
This is a picture of the new bronze statue at the conference center. Thought you might want to see it.
